Dr. Bjerkvig is Professor in Cell Biology at the Department of Biomedicine at the University of Bergen, Norway. Bjerkvig has served as director of the Department of Biomedicine, University of Bergen, Norway as well as Director of the Oncology Department, Luxembourg Institute of Health.

His main interests are to elucidate the mechanisms that cause tumor cell invasion and metastasis from primary and secondary brain tumors. This involves work focusing on mechanisms related to tumor/host cell interactions, -and how cells adapt within this microenvironment in order to facilitate tumor growth. Based on his discoveries,  Bjerkvig is also co-founder of the Biotech Company Cytovation ASA (www.cytovation,com).
